An Alliance and Leicester product story

Research commissioned by Alliance and Leicester Commercial Bank reveals that more than eight out of 10 (81%) of small businesses in Manchester do not support new road pricing scheme.

When asked if they were in favour of the proposed national scheme and the pilots less than one in 10 said it was something they support (9%).

The national survey carried out by YouGov reveals there is more resistance to road pricing by businesses in this region than anywhere else in the country.

The least resistance is in London - where there is already a road pricing scheme in place - with a third of businesses (32%) saying they support national road pricing and pilots.

Steve Jennings, Director of Business Banking at Alliance and Leicester Commercial Bank, said: "Road pricing - if introduced - would be another financial burden for small businesses in the region".

"Companies will need to review their outgoings, in order to absorb this cost, and banking costs should be included in any review, as earlier research from Alliance and Leicester found that small businesses in the UK are wasting over ?500 million each year by not shopping around for the best deal".

"By taking advantage of the competitive deals on offer, businesses can be sure they are not being taken for a ride.".
