Allianz Insurance will welcome some of the leading figures in the occupational health industry at its first Wellbeing Conference.

The ability of employees to carry out their duties has been increasingly affected by external pressures and general poor health, which has encouraged businesses to review what is meant by 'wellbeing'.

The Allianz Insurance conference on September 18 2007 will bring together experts from the fields of wellbeing management, behavioural safety, stress management and rehabilitation.

They will discuss what wellbeing encompasses, why it is important and how business can tackle it effectively.

Michelle Juchau, Allianz Insurance Health and Safety Manager, said: "Thirty million working days are still lost every year due to occupational ill health and injury, leading to lower quality of life and economic prospects for many people".

""Companies now have to consider the whole wellbeing of the employee as part of their fitness to work. This broader consideration of 'fitness to work' brings into scope issues such as absenteeism due to illness/injury which are not work-related and individuals who, whilst at work, are not working at their full potential due to ill health of some form.

"Promotion of wellbeing focuses on this wider definition and ensures not only the safety of the employee at work, but strives to improve the overall physical and mental health of the individual in order for them to perform at their best." The Allianz Wellbeing Conference takes place at the Mandolay Hotel in Guildford from 9.00-4.30pm.

Representatives from businesses from across the region as well as the insurance industry are expected to attend the event.
