Allianz Engineering is reminding public authorities of the need to comply with the latest phase of the Energy Performance of Buildings Regulations which comes into effect on October 1, 2008.

The legislation states that Display Energy Certificates (DECs) will be required for buildings with a total floor area over 1,000 , the average size of a public library, that are occupied by a public authority or institution providing a public service.

The DEC should be clearly displayed at all times and visible to the public, enabling everyone to see how energy efficient our public buildings are.

In addition, from the same date all properties - homes, commercial and public buildings - when bought, sold, built or rented will need an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC).

The certificate provides energy efficiency A-G ratings and recommendations for improvement.

Steve Ford, special services manager, Allianz Engineering, said: "The new regulations will allow the general public to see how energy efficient public buildings actually are.

Across the markets we have seen a lack of awareness of the new legislation: the latest phase sees the greatest range of buildings needing EPCs and DECs which has led to a rush of activity as everyone tries to comply at the last minute." Allianz Engineering is able to provide a full range of energy certification services for commercial clients.

More information about the legislation, timescales and a full suite of Energy Services can be found at www.allianzengineering.co.uk or www.allianzebroker.co.uk.
