Comment on the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) Distributive Trades Survey for April 2009
Richard Lowe, Head of Retail and Wholesale, Barclays Commercial Bank said:
"The April results reflect the boost that some high street retailers have experienced following on from a good Easter and an increased footfall on recent months.
The rate of decline in the sector is lessening with retail sales picking up as well stocked retailers have been able to exploit fairer weather.
"Reduced stock levels as a result of clearance and promotional activities on the high street and on-line earlier in the year will now have a positive effect on reinvigorating the supply chain.
With sales up, depleted stocks will lead to new orders being placed with the knock-on effect for wholesales being well received.
