BUPA care homes takes 8,000 residents on
Mediterranean cruise
Residents of seven Liverpool care homes are looking forward to enjoying a cruise with a difference as part of a new BUPA initiative.
Over 100 BUPA care homes will re-create the environment of a passenger cruise ship for a six week Mediterranean voyage They will 'set sail' from the port of Liverpool on Monday 23 July and 'passengers' will experience the delights of Bordeaux, Barcelona, Venice, Athens and Casablanca

These destinations will be brought to life through a variety of activities: Deck games such as quoits, putting, and shuffle board will be available to play Entertainment performances will be given, from flamenco dancing to Italian opera, Beatles favourites to the cancan Residents will be able to brush up on their lingo - they will be provided with key words and phrases in the languages spoken in each country visited Music from the Mediterranean countries featured in the itinerary will be played within the homes Postcards of each destination will be supplied to residents for them to send to their relatives Home catering teams will be cooking up popular local dishes including 'Scouse' stew from Liverpool, moussaka from Greece and Moroccan lamb tagine A gala dinner will be held, complete with the captain's table - a fitting finale to this special trip The Mediterranean Cruise has been organised by BUPA Care Homes and has received the generous sponsorship of Unilever Bestfoods UK, which produces the Knorr brand of food products.
National activities manager of BUPA Care Homes, Tim Brooke, said: "The majority of our residents are unable to go abroad so we thought it would be a good idea to create a holiday atmosphere within the homes.
"By giving our residents the opportunity to experience the cultures of different Mediterranean destinations, we hope to engage them and their families in an enjoyable and stimulating summer activity.".
