IHI strengthens its medical team
IHI, the Danish arm of leading expat insurance company BUPA International, has appointed three doctors to strengthen its highly experienced medical team.
The new doctors are Mikael Bitsch who is chief physician in surgery at Bispebjerg Hospital in Copenhagen and specialises in wound healing, John Skaaning Storgaard, a general practitioner with extensive experience of treating patients in emergency centres and Torben Sejr, chief physician at Glostrup Hospital in Copenhagen who specialises in quality assuring treatment.
These appointments bring the number of doctors at IHI to 13, all of whom are among the most experienced and competent in their field.
Their job is to give advice to IHI's expat and travel insurance customers when they become ill, either at home or when travelling.
Two doctors and the IHI medical team are available 24 hours a day, every day, to assist the company's 750,000 customers in 190 countries around the world.
Torben Staehr Johansen, IHI's chief doctor, said: "We need to be able to provide the best specialist medical advice possible to our customers, wherever they are in the world, day or night, whatever the problem".
"Our medical team comprises experienced doctors with highly relevant skills and experience." "Our doctors specialise in specific areas such as high altitude diseases, tropical infections, patient evacuations and home transportations".
"They also have extensive experience of diagnosing and treating cancer, heart disorders and musculoskeletal conditions, where there is a particular need for expert advice," he said.
The IHI medical team, based in Copenhagen, ensures that immediate and correct treatment is always arranged when the need arises.
This may involve doctors making decisions about whether a patient needs to be flown back to their home country or treated locally.
