Students really mean business
Budding entrepreneurs are being helped by volunteers from BUPA Health Insurance to become business hotshots.
BUPA also secured contributions from employees across the globe - including Spain, Bolivia and the Middle East - who donated recipes to the publication.Through sales of Around the World in Sixty Dishes, plus a contribution of £5,000 by the company itself, BUPA aims to raise an estimated £30,000 for cancer charities.
Funds raised will be split equally between Cancer Research UK, The Christie's Appeal for the Christie's Hospital in Manchester and The Royal Marsden Cancer Campaign.
The idea for the recipe book was devised and developed by BUPA staff and is supported by BUPA through its Community Connections initiative, which encourages employees to volunteer help and support to the local communities in which they live and work.
Joanne Keane, Community Affairs Manager at BUPA, commented: "Through Around the World in Sixty Dishes, we are proud to be celebrating BUPA's 60th anniversary by doing something meaningful to support organisations that research and treat cancer, a disease that affects millions of people around the world every year.
The cook book has also been a great way for our UK-based employees to make contacts with their colleagues in BUPA's international offices." One of Britain's best loved chefs Brian Turner, who contributed a recipe for rack of lamb with parsley crust, said: "I am happy to share the secret of one of my favourite traditional recipes to benefit those with cancer and to support research into a disease that devastates so many lives.
Well done to the staff at BUPA for their initiative and I would like to encourage support for what has been a tremendous effort in personal time for an important cause." BUPA is committed to exceeding the Business in the Community benchmark of donating over one percent of pre-tax profit annually and, during 2006, the Group donated the equivalent of £5.3m to charities and community projects.
The recipe book retails for £5 with all profits going to charity.
