COLONIA COURT CELEBRATES £1 MILLION NEW LOOK.
The Mayor and Mayoress of Colchester will cut a ribbon to celebrate the official unveiling of a major extension in one of their local care homes, Colonia Court, where the specialist Huntington's disease unit has undergone a significant development programme, thanks to a £1 million investment from BUPA.
BUPA's extension at Amber Lodge has seen the addition of eight extra bedrooms, taking the total number of rooms in the specialist unit to 28.
Flat screen televisions have also been introduced, as well as a new lounge area, private and communal dining rooms and extended activity facilities and areas, including a new internet cafe; for residents.
And the work has not stopped there.
A further five bedrooms have been added to Paxman House, which looks after residents requiring nursing or palliative care, taking the total number of bedrooms at the home to 123.
The development is part of BUPA's drive to improve standards in the care home sector, and has proved a real hit with the residents, families and staff at Colonia Court Residential and Nursing Home.
Home manager Harvey Newman said: "Our home is the only specialist Huntington's unit run by BUPA and as there aren't many in the UK, this is a welcome development." Many residents with Huntington's value their own space and welcome the freedom of having more room, such as more lounges and activity areas.
Also, the new facilities, like the internet cafe, will help keep residents stimulated and motivated." For further information on BUPA Care Homes, please log on to: www.bupacarehomes.co.uk.
