The Kensington care home gets high-tech thanks to BUPA
On Tuesday 4 March, the Mayor and Mayoress of Kensington and Chelsea will officially unveil a top-to-toe makeover at The Kensington Nursing Home in Ladbroke Road,
after an investment of more than three-quarters of a million pounds by BUPA.
Not only have all the home's bedrooms and en-suite facilities been redecorated and refurbished thanks to the investment programme, but plasma TVs with freeview have been added to the bedrooms, while the living area now offers residents Sky television with a wide range of channels to pick from.
Desk top computers with internet access have been added to the library and laptops are also being introduced, so that residents have the freedom to use computers in different areas of the home, including their bedrooms.
And the work did not stop there.
The large communal conservatory area, which faces the home's gardens, has also been re-furbished with new furniture and comfortable seating, while new carpets, curtains and furniture have been introduced throughout the home.
The refurbishment is part of BUPA's drive to improve standards in the care home sector, and has proved a real hit with the residents of The Kensington.
Many even helped in the planning process itself, enjoying cups of tea with the builders when they were on site as they discussed the redecoration plans for their individual bedrooms.
Home manager at BUPA's The Kensington, Christine Small said: "It has been very important to us from the start that our residents have been fully involved in the planning and redecoration process.
This is their home and all the refurbishment work has been guided by their view on how they think The Kensington should look.
We are all absolutely delighted with the results!" The public have been invited to join the official opening from 12pm until 2pm on Tuesday 4th March, for an opportunity to see around the care home and enjoy refreshments.
Date: Tuesday 4 March 2008, Time: 12pm - 2pm, Venue: The Kensington Nursing Home, 40/46 Ladbroke Road, Kensington, London W11 3PH, Occasion: A celebration of the £731,000 refurbishment with ribbon-cutting by the Mayor and Mayoress of Kensington and Chelsea.
