home opens with summer fun

Penrith care home, Cold Springs Park, is getting ready for a summer fair this Saturday to reveal a ?1.7 million new look, unveiled by Tim Backshall,

presenter of ITV Border's news programme, Lookaround Visitors to Cold Springs Park can enjoy refreshments, songs and activities including a raffle, tombola and craft stalls

Husband-and-wife team, Terry and Karen Bowes, from Wetheriggs Animal Rescue Centre will bring along parrots, snakes and turtles and share the latest techniques and information in conservation.

The event celebrates new facilities for the care of residents with early stage dementia by unveiling a unit with 22 en-suite bedrooms, increasing the number of beds at the home to 60.

The extension also includes lounge and dining areas and an enclosed garden for residents that they can access from their bedrooms via patio doors.

Beth Lannigan, general manager, said: "This unit will fill a gap in dementia care in the area, responding to the needs of the community and calls from healthcare professionals.

"Until now there has been no local provision for people with early onset dementia who show signs of confusion but who retain a level of independence." Bupa already provides nursing care in Penrith for people with more advanced dementia at Beacon Edge care home.

Beth added: "There will be the potential for residents to transfer from Cold Springs Park to Beacon Edge if their condition progresses.

We look forward to welcoming as many visitors as possible to have fun and to help us mark this improved service for our local community." EVENT AND PHOTO CALL NOTICE: Date: Saturday 19 July 2008.
