Chelsea strikes gold at top honours
award
Chelsea, the UK's 6th largest building society has been honoured for their work at the annual Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) Awards.
The 2007 West of England PRide Awards were the most successful awards to date, receiving 129 entries from the region, which stretches from Gloucestershire in the north to the southern-most tip of Cornwall Chelsea, winners of the 'use of internal communication' award was recognised for their GBP10 billion celebrations, in which they rewarded staff for reaching a landmark asset size

Staff arrived at work to find their offices adorned with balloons, chocolate fountains and were treated to a champagne celebration and an extra days holiday.
In evaluating the awards submissions, the judges looked for a clear description of campaign objectives, original creativity and a successful result.
On Chelsea's campaign the judges commented, "In the notoriously difficult financial services arena, particularly in respect of exciting staff around the financial landmark, the internal communications campaign from the Chelsea Building Society was innovative and engaging".
"The team clearly made the most of the budget to achieve the campaign objectives." Karen Henson, Internal Communications manager at Chelsea said, "Our GBP10 billion celebrations were a fantastic opportunity to thank staff for their hard work, support and commitment to Chelsea.
We wanted the day to be a complete surprise for staff and this meant lots of secret meetings and behind the scenes organisation".
"It was anything but a typical Monday at work and we are delighted that our GBP10 billion success story has been recognised by CIPR." CIPR Director General Colin Farrington, said, " Winning a PRide Award demonstrates peer approval and that you are producing some of the best work in your region".
"Through these awards PR practitioners are able to showcase the good work they are doing and the contribution they make to business and society." CIPR in the West of England Lis Anderson added: "We were delighted to receive so many entries this year which is a testament to the quality and quantity of excellent PR work in our region."
