Centrica's interim management statement

Commenting on Centrica's interim management statement, Paul Schofield, head of utilities at price comparison site moneysupermarket.com, said: "Today's statement from Centrica is bad news for Britain's bill payers This is the clearest indication yet that they will have to withstand further price rises and soaring energy bills this year as wholesale prices continue to rise

Commenting on British Gas' second wave of price cuts in seven days, Paul Schofield, head of utilities at moneysupermarket.com, said:
"It seems the British Gas price hike in January has not had the desired impact and now parent company Centrica is warning first half profits will be a damp squib compared with the same period last year.
"Now is an excellent time for consumers to review the energy market and make sure they have the right provider and product for their area and consumption.
Online monthly direct debit accounts offer the best prices, and only require customers to have an email address and apply online.
There is no need for customers to manage the account online as payments are by direct debit.
Those still languishing on standard deals should act now and jump onto the best online deal which could save consumers nearly £250 a year.
Customers may want to look for reassurance in "fixed" tariffs to avoid any further price hikes - but this comes at a cost with annual bills averaging £200 more than cheaper alternatives.".
