A Principality Building Society product story

To reward its loyal customers, Principality is marking the Welsh patron saint's day by launching a special St David's Day Members Bond paying 6.20% gross p.a./AER fixed for one year.

A new mortgage has also been added to its range - a St David's Day Mortgage fixed at a competitive 4.69% for one year.

The product then reverts to the Bank of England base rate* plus 0.74%, which is currently 5.99%, for the remainder of the mortgage.

This mortgage, which is available to all customers, comes with free valuation, free mortgage payment protection for three months and legal fees are paid for remortgages.

Principality managing director Mr Tracy Morshead said: "We are keen to demonstrate to our members and our customers at large, that as a Welsh building society we offer competitive products and can help our customers make the most of their money.

"The St David's Day Members Bond is exclusive to members of more than three years, bringing with it returns at a special high rate of interest, fixed for a whole year.

Our new mortgage offers a low fixed rate for one year, offering piece of mind over the short term, before reverting to a rate that tracks the base rate.

This means customers will pay less whenever the base rate falls - although payments on the mortgage will go up if the base rate rises." To mark St David's Day, Principality is also calling on the whole of Wales to down tools at 1pm on March 1st - and dedicate five minutes to putting the fun back into this Welsh day of celebration.

The Welsh rugby team and Olympic swimmer David Davies, who is in Australia for the World Championships, have pledged their support.

Staff in the Society's 50 branches - from Newport to Neath and Llanelli to Llandudno - will be leading this bid to unite the country and will sing a Song for St David.

All money raised during the day will go to Principality's charity of the Year, Alzheimer's Society, and can be paid into their account at any Principality branch.

There are any number of songs that could be sung, including the Welsh National Anthem, Bread of Heaven, Green Green Grass of Home, Calon Lan, Men of Harlech and Sospan Fach - and a song sheet can be downloaded and printed from www.principality.co.uk.

Mr Morshead added: "As a Welsh company fully committed to Wales and its people, we believe that St David's Day should be a day of national celebration and belonging.

"We are intending to do our bit to ensure March 1st is well and truly noticed this year and we hope our efforts will kick-start a nationwide day of celebration involving people from all over Wales.
