Maia Capital announces initial
investments

Maia Capital, the multi-manager boutique collaboration with Resolution Asset Management has made a number of initial investments for its range of cautious, balanced and growth portfolios.

Maia partners Chris Ralph, Jason Collins and Simon Mungall, adopting a high conviction, unconstrained approach to fund selection and investment, have sought positions in a wide variety of funds, including those investing in global equities and emerging market debt. There is a high degree of commonality across the portfolios, with many funds appearing in at least two Maia portfolios Funds included in both the Growth and Balanced portfolios include:Lindsell Train UK Equity; Edinburgh Partners Global Opportunities (included in all three portfolios);Artemis Global; Schroder UK Alpha Plus;Martin Currie UK Growth;MLIM UK Special Situations;TT Europe ex UK Equity;Axa American Growth; IVI European (included in all three portfolios);Fidelity Global Special Situations;Majedie UK Opportunities. In the Cautious portfolio, Ralph, Collins and Mungall have avoided UK corporate bond funds, preferring to take positions in more specialist funds

These include:Muzinich America Yield;Blue Bay Investment Grade Bond; Blue Bay High Yield Bond; Blue Bay EMD; Resolution Argonaut Income;Artemis Strategic Bond;Artemis Income. In some cases the Maia partners, who are in the process of constructing the portfolios, have persuaded groups to launch new share classes for funds that did not have UK distributor status.

Jason Collins says: "Launching Maia has enabled us to adopt a high conviction approach and to invest in funds we have liked for a long time but were unable to buy previously.

We have sought many funds outside the usual multi-manager universe and we are being quite aggressive in our fixed interest strategy - we simply don't believe that equities should do all the work.

Our policy is to seek out the best fund managers in the world and to build our portfolios around them.

We will never be out chasing the latest hot fund: we want to find alpha and use it in the best risk adjusted way possible.".
