Standard Life celebrates win at Arts and
Business Awards

Standard Life has won the Arts, Business and Sustainability category at the Arts and Business Awards, in recognition of the company's ongoing partnership with Children's Classic Concerts.

For thirteen years the Children's Classic Concerts organisation has been delighting families and school parties with their fun-filled introduction to live orchestral music In recent years concerts have also included jazz, traditional Celtic, world music and percussion in the lively mix of entertainment and education that regularly sells out at concert halls in Scotland

The aim of Children's Classic Concerts is to provide a relaxed and inclusive experience for concert goers with lots of audience participation during the concert and the opportunity for children to meet conductors, presenters and musicians.

Commenting on the award, Karen Frost, Community Investment Manager, Standard Life, said, "This is a tremendous achievement and recognises our longstanding community investment programme.

We have had an active partnership with Children's Classic Concerts for nine years and have pledged to continue our support until 2010.

This award clearly demonstrates our imaginative approach to deepening our involvement with the project." Karen continued, "Over the years, the numbers benefiting from Children's Classic Concerts have increased and the programme now enables over 17,000 people to attend classical music concerts and a further 2,700 children to participate in associated education events, which introduce children to the instruments and format of a classical orchestral concert.

We look forward to our continued involvement with the best-attended and most popular family concerts in Scotland." Commenting for Children's Classic Concerts, Jane Gordon, Chief Executive, said, "I am delighted that Standard Life has received this award in recognition of our established and ongoing partnership.

At Children's Classic Concerts we believe that the thrill and impact of live performance is crucial to children's enjoyment of music, and we are committed to providing the best quality performances for our young audiences.

Performances are specifically designed by our artistic director, Christopher Bell, to appeal to children in the 4 to 14 age range although as our aim is to provide fun for all the family and there really is something for everyone at each concert." Some comments from the critics include:- "Classical music rocks!" - Leigh, age 11 "It was better than hearing it on a radio because I could see how they played their instruments" - Callum, age 8 "It has made me think about listening to other kinds of music, not just pop music" - Lisa, age 9 "The classical concert was cool and funky" - Megan, age 7 While teachers think:- "I am especially glad to be able to offer this experience to children who, in many cases, would have no other opportunity to hear live orchestral music or experience it in the magnificent setting of the Usher Hall' 'It is good for the children in our school who learn to play violin, cello and brass instruments, to be able to see where their early efforts can lead' Children's Classic Concerts is a non-profit making organisation that believes in the importance of live music for children of all ages.

The organisation relies on sponsorship and public support to continue to deliver quality concerts and education projects to Scotland 's children.
