Leading fund manager, Standard Life Investments celebrates, for the second consecutive year, its win of the 'Best UK Small Cap' category at the Money Observer Investment Trust Awards 2009.

The trust qualified for the award based on its performance over a three year period to 31 March 2009.

The announcement comes at an exciting time for the trust which earlier this month announced the final conversion of Gartmore Smaller Companies Trust Plc Continuation Shares following the successful merger of the two trusts in February 2009 - a move which doubled the gross assets of the trust.

Total assets under management currently stand at ?76m (as at 18/06/09).

Gordon Humphries, Head of Investment Trusts at Standard Life Investments, said; "This latest award for Harry Nimmo and his team vindicates the strength of the trust's management and their extensive investment expertise.

It is clear that Harry and his team are focussed on harnessing their successful investment process in order to maintain their awardwinning performance for the benefit of all shareholders.

This is reflected in the fact that the trust has outperformed the Hoare Govett Smaller Companies Index (ex Investment Companies) by 19% and 82% over three and five years respectively to (Lipper to 01/06/09).

Standard Life UK Smaller Companies Trust Plc, which aims to achieve long term capital growth by investing in UK quoted smaller companies, has been managed by Harry Nimmo and his team since Standard Life Investments was appointed as its manager in September 2003.
